Do you need someone to do a deep dive? Review policies? Does your office or department need training regarding a specific legal or policy issue?
I have extensive experience in all aspects of child welfare practice and am available to consult and train regarding a variety of issues, including assembling a team of multidisciplinary experts to review and make recommendations in difficult cases.
From a previous client:
"My office contracted with Julie Thomerson to assist me in preparing for my first jury trial. Despite having ten years of experience as a child welfare attorney, I have never had a parent actually go through with an adjudicatory jury trial. As I prepared for trial, I realized that I had a lot of questions that really couldn't be answered by anyone in my office. Julie was invaluable. She was very responsive to text messages, emails, and phone calls regardless of the hour. She could not have been more accommodating to the chaos of trial preparation nor of the reality that it converted to a bench-trial last minute and I no longer needed three full days of her time. Her advice was spot-on and she always kept the focus on what is best for the child and family. For example, even though the child and aunt's testimony would have helped my case, she came up with creative solutions to circumvent the need for their testimony and always kept the focus on doing the right thing for the child and his/her family. She offered helpful trial tips, ideas to fight the respondent parent counsel's motions in limine, excellent examples of voir dire questions, and assisted me every step of the way. I would unequivocally recommend Julie for anyone that needs assistance in trial preparation or any other aspect of dependency and neglect representation. She made me feel as though I had a child welfare legal team when I am, in fact, the only attorney in my office practicing dependency and neglect law."
The Title IX process requires significant time and resources, and some schools do not have access to a Title IX Coordinator through their district. When that happens, schools are faced with addressing these issues with existing staff, which is a huge strain on resources. I am fully trained in Title IX requirements and can help design policies and procedures, establish a web page, or serve as a Coordinator, Facilitator or Decision-maker for your school, as well as helping you to stay up to date regarding upcoming regulatory changes.
Are you - or someone you work with - facing a complicated D&N trial without adequate time or resources?
With adequate notice, I am available to cover trials, conflict cases or provide short-term attorney coverage in the Denver Metro area (or other areas virtually). I also can help strategize, assist with preparation, help negotiate or participate in any Dependency and Neglect trial - start to finish, including travel in some circumstances.
Do you need to consult regarding legislation impacting Child Welfare or Human Services? Do you need someone to organize, facilitate or represent your position in policy meetings?
After many years of work in the policy arena - local, state and federal - as well as knowledge as to how such policies impact families and professionals on the ground, I am dedicated to providing input where it matters - whether in meetings, hearings, discussions with legislators or public forums. I'm available to discuss issues and find ways to help you or your organization meet important policy goals.
With mounting litigation and appellate caseloads, do you need additional support to draft briefs or provide oral argument?
I have filed hundreds of successful appellate briefs on a variety of D&N topics, and I can help research, write and/or present appellate argument for your client or agency.
